Pisces Mood Board

Design is magic and magic is design and astrology is magic and to kick off Pisces Season, here is my vision board. This is part trend forecast, part vision board, part love letter to pisces placements (pisces women are unmatched in my book).

I hope it gets you into the spirit of the season; believing the cryptic symbolism in your dreams, crying at the beauty of your morning commute, and flowing like water from interest to interest. If you live according to the astrological calendar, now is good time to reconnect with your spiritual side and share your wisdom with the world.

Here are some visual cues that are radiating full on pisces energy:

Formless Web Design

Check the Label Project by Rolf Jensen

This stunning design lacks the traditional structure we’re used to seeing on websites (menu at the top, horizontal banners in contrasting colors, etc). The result is a user experience that unfolds as you experience it. Each scroll unveils a little more of the story and provides links for your engagement. And all of it is quite literally unbound- few containers and patterns allow for a very free flowing layout. Just like a Pisces, there’s a formlessness and a freedom to the interaction in this design.

Pisces is a water sign. How many water-like elements can you find in the graphic? I’m seeing a warped title, a flowy bit of thread that almost seems to float down the page, and organic animations that can be seen at this link.

Oozey Typefaces

Amiza by Zamara Type

These thick, oozey scripts are some of the only scripts I’ll approve of. They’re cute, they’re packed with personality, and they’ve got that abundant inkwell feeling while being modern.

And the flexible liquidity of this specific type face combined with the subtle, subtle hint of vintage is very Piscean to me.

Vintage Fairytale Illustration

The Princess and the Pea by Arantza Sestayo

Looking for a color palette for your Pisces forward brand? Might I suggest taking a gander at your local library for some old fairy tale illustrations? They have all the romance of classic art materials, the dreaminess of fantasy, and that haze is just scrumptious.

Unrealistically Glossy Runway Makeup

Pat McGrath for Maison Margiela

Pat McGrath’s make-up design for the Maison Margiela’s runway is living rent free in our brains. It’s unbelievable glossy, giving an other worldly, dream land, “glass skin” affect. Once again, it’s modern and vintage at once; it’s timeless but we’ve never seen it before. It’s PISCES. It’s an angel or a mermaid or a goddess descending in a beam of light to give you a magical object that will surely change the course of your quest.

That’s my show, folks. What would you add to the Pisces Season Mood Board??
