Gemini Mood Board

Welcome back to the series where we highlight how the astrological archetypes are showing up across different art and design disciplines. Naturally, as it is the first day of Gemini season, the twins are under the spotlight. After the thickly grounding experience of Taurus season, Gemini season sweeps us off our feet and drags us out to the party. Are you in the mood to dance?

Mixed Media Event Poster Design

Poster Design by Carolyn Hawkins

First on the docket is Carolyn Hawkins’ super cool, very playful, highly engaging work. Mixed media was the first thing that came to my mind when brainstorming Gemini aesthetics. It’s contradictory, changeable, and refuses to just be one thing. This is Gemini’s greatest strength and most triggering aspect; it can’t be boiled down to a single definition. Aside from that, the format is experimental and dynamic, just like your Gemini bff. If you like this, check out more of the artist’s work, you could easily spend an hour playing around on her website.

Surrealist Painting

by Artush Voskanyan

This Dali-like optical illusion of a painting reminds us of the dual nature of Gemini. “Stuff can be two things”- Andy Samberg. And very fitting that both the things represented in the painting are stylish women at some kind of event. Spend some time shifting your perspective between the two subjects as a meditation on the transient nature of the self.

1970s Sequential Story Art

By Liz Berube, Archived by Sequential Crush Blog

My heart almost popped when I stumbled on this scan of an old romance comic. The abundance of colors, figures, conflicting emotions, and it-girl styling is giving the kind of whimsical maximalism this air sign also exudes. Make like a disco era teen and go read some of these comics, they’re so cute and all the art is as good as this.

I’m sure this isn’t your first exposure to the super chunky eclectic charm necklace trend. Pinterest is flooded with them and most towns have a couple jewelry makers offering charm parties for building your own take on the trend. In another reference to maximalism, consider adopting this trend to express your Gemini placements/appreciation. I made one with a pair of jewelry pliers to disassemble all my favorite pendants and combine them into one.

Dragonfly Top

Rupi Kaur wearing Rahul Mishra, styled by Sarah Slutsky

Earlier in May, poet Rupi Kaur wore this incredible look to the annual Gold Gala. We’re finishing off with this one because it so perfectly wraps up everything Gemini aesthetics represent- creative ideas, standing out, being fabulous, collaboration, color, and actually just always being on the verge of getting up and flying away.

Thank you for joining me for what has been our fourth (!!) installment of this series. I welcome feedback via comments or email, so please let me know what you think of the Gemini mood board! Get out and be hot. Remember you are the moment, the icon, and the muse.

xx
